Board reviews elementary music stipend, association dues and concurrency agreements at workshop

Elementary arts and music MOU: Dr. Burns explained the memorandum of understanding with the NTA would provide participating elementary music and art teachers a stipend if they participate in performances (four events per semester). A staff presenter confirmed the stipend amount is $600 per teacher and recommended that, if the millage funding continues, the stipends be placed on the district’s differentiated pay scale in subsequent years.
FSBA membership: Dr. Burns described the annual membership as a recurring board decision; board members debated whether to pay as a group (district membership) or allow individual board members to purchase memberships and noted the district opted out last year while still having access to many online resources.
Concurrency agreements: Staff noted missing attachments for some mitigation agreements (Pine Landing phases/Timber Grove) and committed to attaching updated mitigation and calculations sheets before the next meeting; staff explained one Pine Landing phase had been renamed Timber Grove and unit counts were updated.
Designation of bargaining negotiator: Staff proposed naming the director of resources, Miss Rhonda Devereaux, as chief negotiator to limit legal expense while retaining access to outside counsel as needed. Board members asked staff to provide a breakdown of legal costs for bargaining and the tradeoffs of the change.
Next steps: Items will be on the Thursday meeting agenda where formal board consideration will occur; staff promised to provide missing attachments and financial clarifications prior to that meeting.
