The Finance Committee on April 14 voted to recommend that the full Gardner City Council ratify the mayor’s recommended starting steps for various department head positions, retroactive to July 1.
Mayor (speaker S4) explained the placements reflect prior years of service and prior positions held with the city. He noted most directors being considered had previous service with the city in related roles. Committee members said they viewed the placements as deserved and described the vote as a formality. A motion to recommend the measure to the full council with suspension of the rules was moved and seconded; the motion carried on a voice vote.
Next steps: the committee’s recommendation will be forwarded to the full council for final approval; committee members did not debate individual dollar amounts at length in the meeting.
