Residents press board for clarity on conventions, room‑tax reimbursements and museum openness

George Chachas told the board the director's Jan. 28 report noted conventions the county could not bid on because of floor size or functionality, and he said he has not received follow‑up: "From the last meeting of January 28, 2025...requests have been received from conventions that we have not been able to bid on because we do not have the right size floor or functionality. He wants to know what those factors are," the minutes record. Chachas asked for the history of a room‑tax reimbursement shown on the Jan. 21 bills, questioned a $1,360 payment to LG Tree Services and a mileage reimbursement on the current bills, and renewed an outstanding request for a past inventory list and ADA compliance information for the parking lot across the street.
Chachas also raised a concern about the Nevada Northern Railway Museum and open‑meetings compliance, saying the museum "do[es] not operate under the open meeting law," a claim that was recorded in public comment and was not answered in the minutes.
Paula Carson offered praise for staff support and meeting materials: "She always does a wonderful job, and she appreciates her help," the minutes say, referring to Nicole's work on the agenda; Carson also said she "liked the way [Kyle] was able to share his screen," and she praised Errol's report format.
Vince Fleischman, who identified himself as a veteran fisherman, questioned whether the fishing derby needed to be canceled and suggested recruiting experienced anglers to mentor newcomers: "Most people who want to fish do not know how to fish," he said, adding that the lake is a "trophy lake." Director Horvath explained that the city and county ordinance earmarks a percentage of room tax revenue for the railroad and named four earmarks (city, railroad, golf course and state) when asked about the pie chart figures.
The minutes do not record additional responses from the board or staff that satisfied Chachas's records requests or the open‑meeting concern. Those items remain outstanding in the meeting record.
