Tourism board approves conservative preliminary FY25/26 budget, ratifies bills; member abstains on Bath Lumber payment

The White Pine County Tourism and Recreation Board approved a preliminary fiscal year 2025/26 budget and ratified payment of routine bills during its March 25 meeting at the Bristlecone Convention Center.
Director Kyle Horvath said the preliminary forecast is conservative, showing a projected fund balance of $44,750 and proposed increases of $5,000 for public art and $30,000 for the White Pine Public Museum. "I have budgeted conservatively this year," Horvath said. The board voted to approve the preliminary budget and to return with a final budget at a subsequent meeting.
The board also ratified payment of check numbers 12392 through 12422 totaling $131,556.23, excluding a separate motion for payment to Bath Lumber. On the Bath Lumber item (check no. 12401 for $739.25), Member Jason Bath disclosed a family interest and abstained. Member Mary Valencia moved to pay the Bath Lumber bill; Member Janet VanCamp seconded, and the motion carried with one abstention.
Chairman Terrill Trask moved and the board accepted an engagement letter from Hinton Burdick to provide auditing services for fiscal year 2024/25; the firm has been the board's auditor for the past three years.
The meeting included a brief recess to resolve a Zoom connection issue before resuming budget discussion and votes. The board adjourned at 5:52 p.m.
