Student council vice president Selena Luang highlights student activities and community service

Selena Luang, vice president of the Edison High student council, presented a student report at the Dec. 15 Edison Township Board of Education meeting, describing recent school activities and community service projects.

Luang recounted fall and winter events, including hallway decorating contests, the winter choir and orchestra concerts, a one-act play, a gingerbread-house contest, a senior dinner-and-movie event and spirit-week activities. She singled out the choir’s “all-girl choir” performance and congratulated students chosen for regional ensembles.

On community service, Luang said students and staff from Edison High and J.P. Stevens participated in a Hands of Hope event at a church on Woodbridge Avenue, where volunteers helped feed “over 300 families.” She described the district’s toy drive and other charitable work as evidence of strong community involvement.

Luang also congratulated classmates accepted to selective colleges: “Ishaani got into Princeton and Ishaan Kumar got into Carnegie Mellon,” she said, and thanked advisors and coaches for supporting students in academics and athletics.

Other public commenters expanded on community highlights and offered condolences: Susan Campioni announced the passing of longtime band director Carl Anand and said a memorial would be scheduled, and Anthony Mara offered a prayer and blessing for the board. The meeting closed with board members offering thanks and holiday wishes.

Luang’s remarks were framed as a student report; they did not request board action but provided background on recent activities and volunteer efforts in the district.
