Princeton outlines two‑phase wastewater lift‑station upgrade tied to Toyota growth

Summary
Wessler Engineering presented a two‑phase wastewater project for Princeton to handle increased flows tied to Toyota operations: Phase 1 is under construction with a $709,578 bid; Phase 2 is a larger lift station estimated at about $10 million, proposed as a build‑operate‑transfer delivery to meet a 2027 operational target.
The city of Princeton plans a two‑phase upgrade to wastewater lift stations to handle increased flows related to expanding industrial operations.
Dean Rogers of Wessler Engineering told the commission Phase 1 — a replacement rider lift station — has a construction bid of $709,578 and a total Phase 1 estimate of about $1.15 million. He said the notice to proceed was issued recently and that the work is anticipated to be substantially complete in early October with final completion in early November.
Phase 2 is a larger project: Rogers described a proposed 3,000,000‑gallon‑per‑day triplex lift station and related force mains. He said the early estimated total project cost is on the order of $10 million and that the city is proposing a build‑operate‑transfer (BOT) delivery method to speed delivery and meet Toyota’s desired timeframe. Rogers stated the project team has received two proposals so far and expects to select a contractor within a week.
On schedule, Rogers said design and permitting for Phase 2 would proceed after contractor selection with permits and notice to proceed targeted in mid‑2026 and roughly a year of construction thereafter, which would position the new lift station for operation by summer 2027.
Rogers said Toyota operates pretreatment for any materials classified as hazardous, and Wessler does not expect hazardous industrial discharges from the battery assembly plant as described in the presentation. He noted the city of Princeton would award the construction contracts.
The commission did not take formal action on the wastewater project at the meeting; contractors are being evaluated and the city will return with contract awards and permit filings as the design and procurement proceed.
