Tarentum Borough Council voted unanimously on April 14 to allow Pioneer Hose to use borough property for a fireworks display on July 3, 2026, and to close 1st Avenue between Bridge and Cherry streets from 8–11 p.m., contingent on police coordination and standard permit requirements.
The council read a written request dated April 9 from Pioneer Hose asking that Ace Pyro LLC conduct the display and requesting assistance from the police department for traffic management. During discussion, police and council members warned that past events concentrated in the Lower East Side produce heavy congestion and can hinder emergency response. One officer observed that access for engines and first responders would be “very difficult, if not impossible” in certain configurations (speaker 10).
Despite the concerns, councilors said they had managed similar events before and that Pioneer Hose had raised funds and made logistical efforts to stage the display. The chair noted the short lead time between the April request and the July 3 date but moved forward with a motion to approve the road closure and borough‑property use; the motion passed 6–0.
Council members emphasized that the department would work to stage traffic controls and that additional overtime or resource deployments could be required. The council requested that organizers provide liability insurance, and staff will coordinate the final traffic plan with the police department.
Action taken: the council approved the permit and road closure for 07/03/2026 to allow the Pioneer Hose fireworks display, subject to police support and submission of liability insurance.
