The Yarmouth Commission on Disability agreed at its April 10 meeting to form a nominating process ahead of the commission’s annual reorganization and to distribute nomination materials across town. Chair Gail Sherrette opened a discussion of the clerk vacancy and the need for a nominating committee; members agreed a two-person committee would privately contact candidates and present a slate at the next meeting following the town’s annual election schedule.
Jessica (speaker 7) suggested a rotation for the clerk role so the duty would not fall on a single person. Drew (speaker 3) volunteered to help contact members: "I should volunteer to do that because I'm a big fat mouth," he said, and members agreed volunteers would reach out and return with a recommended slate in May.
The commission also set outreach assignments to publicize open seats and collect nominations. Members will staff a booth at a May 9 health and wellness fair and distribute posters and nomination forms to the senior center, the Chamber of Commerce, three libraries, schools, post offices, grocery stores and community organizations. The town communications manager will publish materials on the town website and social media; members were instructed to provide posters and forms to the communications manager for posting.
Assignments recorded in the meeting included library outreach, school contacts, post offices and community providers; members agreed to report back at the next meeting with results and to collect forms by email or mail rather than in public drop boxes.
