District reports slight enrollment dip, cohort analysis and attendance trends ahead of 2627 budgeting

Byrd (speaker S11) presented the 1/20 membership snapshot: enrollment of 10,033, membership of 9,760 and FTE of 9,692, representing decreases from earlier reporting windows (enrollment down 31, membership down 50, FTE down 61.5). Superintendent Strickland explained a new cohort analysis tool that compares this year's students with last year's and can reveal grade- or campus-specific losses (he noted a reduction of 41 students in 11th grade in one snapshot). Strickland said cohort analysis helps the district ask where students are going and why they are leaving.
Attendance reporting showed campus-level variance. Byrd said the district tracks chronic absenteeism (students missing more than 10% of enrolled days) and highlighted improvements at College Lane and Sanger; the district also runs an attendance recognition contest for campuses.
Budget context: staff and the superintendent said the cohort and attendance data feed into funding decisions because state funding formulas and staffing rely on membership/FTE measurements. The board will finalize the 2627 budget on April 21, and the district noted a unit-value increase announced by PED that will affect planning.
