Cheshire council adopts $20 daily fee for handheld public-record scanners

The Town of Cheshire adopted an amendment to section 2-8 of its fee schedule to set the charge for use of a handheld scanner to copy public records at $20 per day.
During a public hearing opening earlier in the meeting, Town Manager Sean M. Kimball said the change was requested by the town clerk and was limited to establishing a daily fee for handheld scanners. "This is a change that was requested from our town clerk, and it is simply, setting the fee for the use of a handheld scanner device to copy documents, at a rate of $20 per day," Kimball said.
Later in the meeting the council moved and seconded the resolution to adopt the amendment pursuant to the recommendations of the Ordinance Review Committee. A council member reading the motion said the amendment "increases the cost of the use of a handheld scanner to copy public records, to $20 a day." The motion passed unanimously.
Town Manager Kimball added that the fee "just makes the fee consistent with the rest of the state." The adopted change will be applied as presented; the town clerk will administer the fee for public-record copying.
