Police Chief Brad Jordan told the board the department logged 227 calls through the communications center during the reporting period, including 12 motor vehicle crashes, six larcenies, two drug cases, one fraud, two trespasses and 41 minor citations; he also announced that Jake Howell is the department's new detective. The board thanked Chief Jordan for his report.
Wastewater Superintendent Brandon Patrick reported four inches of rain for the month, said the annual land-application inspection on Sept. 16 found no problems, and noted the filter plant had been shut down to repair a main valve.
Fire Captain Matt Lambert said the department received 72 calls for the month, confirmed the town signed a contract with Pierce for a new fire truck, and reported crews have been working on water points and flowing hydrants; he also said FEMA funds have been received for department repairs but that work is waiting on permits. A side-by-side vehicle, trailer and generator were secured through grant funding.
Town Manager Brantley Price summarized larger grant and finance items affecting operations: the town has received $1,232,200 from FEMA with all but three projects obligated; a sewer-line extension on Ridge Avenue is scheduled to start next week; and Golden Leaf awarded $312,000 to complete the pond in the park and underground detention at the maintenance department (that project will be rebid). Price also reported taxes collected to date total 72% of the levy and that sales tax is up 7% from the prior year. Public comments were recorded as none.
Why it matters: the departmental reports document near-term operational pressures, progress on capital projects, and the status of external grant funding that will affect project scheduling and budgets.
The board adjourned after the reports and routine business.
