The Fernley City Council on June 4 held a first reading of Bill 360, which proposes adoption of the 2024 International Code Council series, the 2023 National Electric Code and Northern Nevada Chapter amendments, and would amend Title 8 of the Fernley Municipal Code governing buildings and construction.
Raylyn Burkel (presenting in the meeting as the staff contact) said the session was a first reading and that staff will provide a detailed presentation at the next council meeting to explain processes and any substantive changes. “As the mayor just read, this is just a first reading. I will…come back with a presentation at our next council meeting,” Burkel said.
Council members asked whether the international codes are adopted statewide in Nevada; Burkel said Nevada generally adopts the international series whereas some states maintain state-specific codes. No vote was taken; the ordinance will return for further review and a future public hearing as required.
