Fernley senior advisory committee elects new chair, welcomes new member and sets Angel Tree schedule

Lisa Callahan was elected chair of the Fernley Senior Citizen Advisory Committee and Denise Mormon will continue as vice chair after the committee approved the nominations by voice vote at its October meeting. The committee also administered the oath to newly appointed member Jordan Hicks.

The leadership change came as outgoing chair Jackie LaVoy said she had termed out of both positions and recommended Callahan and Mormon. "That Lisa Callahan be elected as our chair and that Denise Mormon continue as our vice chair," LaVoy said, and Sharon Holly seconded the nomination. The committee approved the motion by voice vote.

The committee swore in Jordan Hicks at the meeting. During the oath administration, Hicks repeated the pledge to "support, protect and defend the Constitution and government of the United States and the Constitution and government of the State of Nevada," after which members welcomed him to the committee.

Committee members also handled routine business: they unanimously approved the meeting agenda and the minutes from the Aug. 8 meeting via voice votes. No formal roll‑call tallies were recorded in the meeting minutes; the chair recorded the outcomes as approved.

The committee ended the leadership portion of its agenda by reappointing members to standing subcommittees covering communications, partnerships and events. Members volunteered for roles during the meeting; a motion to reappoint members "as they volunteered" carried by voice vote.

The committee’s next meeting is scheduled for Dec. 12, when members expect to follow up on subcommittee work and schedule community drives and cemetery cleanup coordination with the mayor’s clean‑up calendar.
