Fernley council approves $388,029 insurance renewal for 2025–26

Tina Peterson of LP Insurance, presenting the renewal alongside Steven Romero of PoolPact, told council that coverage forms did not change this year even though the city’s insured values and payroll figures increased. “This year, there was absolutely no change to the coverage forms,” Peterson said, noting a jump in total insured value from $68 million to $80 million and an increase in the city’s auto count that drove part of the premium change.
City Attorney Aaron Mortensen responded to a council question about procurement rules: “No. Not in this case… it’s not required that we go out to bid,” he said, explaining the state pool arrangement exempts the city from a competitive bid process.
Council members discussed routine questions about what counts as an insured vehicle and the timing of additions to the city’s fleet. Peterson said the pool’s renewal calculation uses the vehicle list submitted in December–January and that vehicles added later would be reflected in next year’s premium.
The motion, made and seconded by council members during the meeting, passed 5–0. The approved payment will be charged to the city's 2025–26 budgeted funds for insurance.
The council did not request additional study on the renewal; staff will proceed with the payment and policy servicing under the pool’s terms.
