Esmeralda County commissioners on Jan. 20 approved paying an additional $12,694.20 to Emergency Vehicle Resources, LLC to complete the next phase of equipping two Chevy Tahoe vehicles for the sheriff's office.
Sheriff Julian Melendez recapped the procurement timeline: the board approved a $100,000 augmentation in February 2025 to partially fund vehicle purchases; the augmentation was finalized in June 2025 but vehicles were not ready until September 2025. The two Tahoes and partial equipping cost $140,576 in total; the board had previously planned to pay the remaining balance from the Sheriff's FY25/26 service & supplies account.
Commissioners approved the $12,694.20 to finish the next equipping phase (lights, sirens, consoles). Sheriff Melendez said the vehicles would still require radar devices, laptop mounts and Axon in-car cameras, and those purchases will be returned to the board if any single invoice exceeds $5,000.
The motion carried unanimously.
