Elko council approves $6 million-plus in warrants and authorizes budgeted $791,981 purchase of articulated water truck

Elko City Council approved regular and special warrants and authorized a budgeted equipment purchase during its August 12 meeting.

Finance staff presented $2,700,534.75 in regular warrants for fiscal year 24–25, $1,676,962.23 in warrants for fiscal year 25–26, and hand‑cut checks totaling $1,634,503.36; council moved and approved each group by voice vote after a brief discussion of retainage on a commercial airport apron project and project scheduling.

Council also reviewed a budgeted request to purchase a Caterpillar 730 LWB articulated chassis with a Mega 6KS water tank for $791,981.20 from Empire Southwest under Omnia contract 21281601 (contract runs through 10/02/2027). Public works/landfill staff explained the choice of an Omnia contract gave a discount on the separate water tank and that the unit came with an advantageous warranty. "Caterpillar was able to throw a 5 year, 6000 hour warranty on that machine ... so that's $9,000 savings right there," staff said; council moved to authorize the purchase and approved it by voice vote. Staff said the purchase was included in the FY25–26 budget.

Council approved a revocable permit application for property owners Courtney and Anita Warline to occupy 1,969 sq ft of adjacent right‑of‑way at 501 and 517 Oak Street for landscaping and signage, subject to execution of the city’s standard license agreement.

All motions on warrants, the vehicle purchase and the revocable permit passed by voice vote with no recorded dissents.
