District details SARC content and access; trustees seek clarity on FIT scores and per-pupil spending

District staff walked the El Rancho Unified board through the School Accountability Report Card (SARC), explaining what the document includes, where to find it online and how it is intended to help parents compare site-level performance.
Miss Castellon summarized the SARC components — enrollment, demographics, state-assessment performance (SBAC, CAST), graduation and dropout rates, facilities FIT results, teacher credentials, and site-specific data such as per-pupil expenditures and chronic absenteeism. She said the SARC is required under federal law and must be published annually by Feb. 1.
Trustees raised specific data questions. One trustee flagged identical CAST scores across the three middle schools in the online display and asked staff to verify whether those figures were auto-populated. Another trustee sought an explanation for Valencia Elementary ppearing with a per-pupil expenditure of $6,685.72 while other elementaries were in the $4,000 range; staff agreed to follow up with a site-level breakdown.
On chronic absenteeism, staff described district strategies including targeted attendance interns, home visits, attendance incentives and site-level case management; staff said the district also runs ELPAC assessor support and LPAC Academy workshops aimed at improving ELD outcomes and reclassification.
Trustees asked for the FIT inspection sheet and a summary of the follow-up/work-order process when repairs are required. Staff agreed to provide samples and a clear description of the maintenance and work-order flow for board review. The district said it will publish SARCs to the state portal and school sites by the statutory deadline and will return with requested breakdowns and clarifications.
