County officials report staffing, audit and local meeting activity; commissioner cites livestock losses to wolves and statewide moose count

During routine officer and commissioner reports at the Dec. 1 meeting, county officials outlined near-term staffing pressures and ongoing administrative work. Clerk Lisa Lloyd said she has a jury trial this week and that her office will be short-staffed while she and a deputy are in court. District Attorney April Bradshaw likewise said she will be in trial and busy this week. Melissa Free from Planning and Building said construction activity will be on hold during the jury trials. Recorder/Auditor Amy Elmer said an intensive audit is wrapping up and her office will then move into tax and budget season.

Commissioners also summarized local meeting activity and community events. Commissioner Lisa Poulsen attended Pagage Valley (PV) Fire training meetings, HCP and Alamo Town Board meetings and had follow-ups with Alamo Power. Commissioner Keith Pearson called Tri-County Weed about pre-emergent spray opportunities and attended HCP and airport coalition meetings. Commissioner Diane Path attended the Caliente City Council meeting where the Caliente library contract was denied and participated in a ribbon cutting for the new Lincoln County Recorder’s office in Pioche. Chair Janine Woodworth noted Pioche’s tree lighting scheduled for the evening.

Commissioner Mike Reese provided wildlife figures: "There are 82 cattle that have been killed by wolves in Nevada," he said, adding that the pack likely came from northeastern California and that wolves are federally protected; he also said Nevada now has "154 moose" and that two tags are issued per year. Those remarks were presented as informational during commissioner reports and did not prompt formal board action.
