Oscoda County OKs FAA inspection for Runway 28 PAPI, authorizes airport tree removal and purchase of ballistic vests

The board approved an agreement with the Federal Aviation Administration Flight Program Operations for a reconfiguration flight inspection of the PAPI on Runway 28 at Dennis Kauffman Memorial Airport (K51M) in the amount of $10,789.20 to be paid from the Construction Projects budget line, with funds transferred from contingency. The motion (McCauley/Bondar) carried 5-0.
In a separate item the board authorized payment of an Integrity Tree Care invoice for tree removal at the Dennis Kauffman Memorial Airport in the amount of $1,350. That expense is to be paid from Contracted Services with a contingency transfer (motion Breaugh/Bondar; carried 5-0).
The board also authorized Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Bowers' request to purchase nineteen ballistic armor panel vests with accessories for the Sheriff Department at a total cost of $18,145, to be paid from the Sheriff Equipment Non-Capital line and reimbursed to the county upon receipt of cancelled checks (motion Breaugh/Handrich; carried 5-0).
Chair Charles E. Varner Jr. reported on a recent leaking fuel-tank incident at the county airport and said all involved "put precautionary measures in place and the fueling station was taken out of service until further notice." He named Airport Manager Brian Smutek and others involved in the response.
Procedural note: each of these items was handled with a separate motion and roll-call, and each was recorded as carried on a unanimous vote.
