Cameron County approves CDBG amendment, juvenile probation grant and liquid-fuels allocations; one township request tabled

The board retroactively adopted Resolution No. 20 2511 to request an amendment to CDBG contract C000082287 because a filing deadline fell between meetings. The chair said the retroactive adoption was necessary because the deadline occurred in the interim between meetings and the board voted to approve the resolution.
In routine business, the board approved Resolution 2025-12 certifying local match for state operating financial assistance to the Area Transportation Authority for fiscal year 2026–2027.
The board also approved a juvenile-probation services grant award of $40,427 to offset salary costs for juvenile-probation officers and the chief probation officer. A motion and second were recorded and commissioners voted to approve the grant.
On liquid-fuels requests, commissioners reviewed three applications: Grove Township requested $5,000 for winter maintenance; Lumber Township requested $27,796.98 (a combined request listing motor replacement and winter materials); and Portage Township requested $5,000 toward a larger estimated $50,000 equipment purchase. With approximately $17,700 available in the county liquid-fuels balance, commissioners voted to approve $5,000 for Grove and $5,000 for Portage and tabled Lumber Township’s larger request until Lumber provides an itemized breakdown separating winter-maintenance costs from motor-replacement costs.
Separately, the county reported state liquid-fuel and Act 44/89 allocations and noted DCED approved a Community Development Block Grant for $205,848 and a Human Services Development Fund allocation (amount cited in the transcript). The chair summarized the proposed county budget — prepared without a tax increase — and said the salary board approved a 2% cost-of-living adjustment for county employees, estimated at about $41,000 in wages and roughly $3,000 in FICA, which the county incorporated into the proposed budget.
