Trustees of the Pasadena Independent School District heard an informational presentation July 10 about a Syntex staff safety platform that district staff said could replace the district’s current Raptor app for certain alert and visitor functions.
Derek, the presenter introduced by staff at the meeting, told trustees the lanyard would allow a staff member to trigger a local alert by tapping a button three times; during more serious incidents repeated activation would set off building beacons, take over staff screens and provide district administrators with location-specific notifications. Derek said the system is intended only for staff (not students) and would separately maintain student IDs.
Staff described the cost as $652,250 per year for five years, not to exceed $3,261,250, and said the safety committee reviewed the product and district staff were exploring grant opportunities to help pay for it. Trustees asked practical questions about battery management, how transfers between campuses would be handled, and how staff badges would be visually distinguished from student IDs.
The item was presented "for information only" and was not approved during the special session.
