The board recognized Golden Valley High School athletes and arts students during a presentation portion of Tuesday’s meeting.
Principal Richter introduced Coach Mello and congratulated the boys and girls wrestling programs for recent team-dual achievements, including a close final match that secured a second consecutive blue banner. Coach Mello introduced standout students by name and noted both team- and individual-level accomplishments.
Later, Amber Kirby and GVHS students presented the arts, media and entertainment pathway showcase. Students described a week-long Southern California trip that included visits to colleges, industry workshops, an Oscar set tour and meetings with alumni and working professionals such as Frankie Loyal. Kirby said 193 students signed up for the program and 23 qualified for competition, and she highlighted cross-curricular collaboration between arts, design and construction trades students.
A parent, Angela Bruning, later spoke during public comment about the positive impact the trip and internship opportunities have had on her daughter and urged continued support so more students can benefit.
