Elko Council extends golf management and concession contracts, boosts pay to retain assistant pro

The Elko City Council approved a three‑year extension of the golf management agreement with Richard Longhurst, PGA, and a three‑year extension of the concession agreement with The Club at Ruby View LLC on Sept. 9, following staff recommendations and public remarks from the golf pro.
Staff said the current contracts include options to extend and that Longhurst and the concessionaire requested three‑year extensions through Dec. 31, 2028. Longhurst told council the course has improved in recent years and that he believes the business is now in a stronger position; he said he is looking for an assistant who will stay with the community long term.
Council also approved a first amendment that increases the annual payment to the golf professional by $12,000 (from $15,000 to $27,000 for 2026) to help retain an assistant golf professional and possibly cover benefits such as health insurance. Staff described the golf operation as financially positive and recommended the increase to support staffing stability.
Councilors voted in favor of the contract extensions and the amendment. Staff will implement the amended terms beginning Jan. 1, 2026, and prepare corrected final documents (staff noted a typographical correction in the amendment wording that will be fixed prior to signing).
