Vice Chair Michelle Merritt called a special meeting of the Hancock County Building and Grounds Committee on Sept. 16, 2025, at the Hancock County Courthouse in Carthage. Committee members present were Ryan Weeks, Lee Ann Lambert, Tom Rodgers, Steve Finney and Mark Menn; Mark Hanson and Josh Turner were absent.
Committee members said they expected more than a checklist when reviewing building permits and requested that staff provide more detailed documentation for permit approvals going forward. The body identified a need for additional background and supporting materials before granting approval on construction-related permits.
Member Steve Finney moved to table approval of two building permits identified in the meeting record as "Highway 94 Sun" and "Highway 96 Sun," citing the need for more informative permit packages; Tom Rodgers seconded the motion. All members present voted aye and the motion to table passed.
Lee Ann Lambert then moved to recess the special meeting until Oct. 14; Ryan Weeks seconded. The committee voted unanimously to recess. The meeting was adjourned at 6:27 p.m. Minutes were submitted by Vice Chair Michelle Merritt.
The committee did not take further action on the permits at this session; the items will remain pending until staff provides the additional permit information requested and the committee reconvenes.
