At a special meeting, the Town of Hope Mills Board of Commissioners unanimously approved three procedural items: rescinding a 2024 resolution that canceled July hearings (R-2025-015), adopting an updated 2025 meeting schedule that adds a first Monday July meeting (R-2025-016), and setting a public hearing for June 30 at 6:00 p.m.
Council manager Chancellor Buckland explained that state statute and coordination with the county Board of Elections influenced the need to rescind the prior cancellation so the board could schedule a July meeting if required. The rescission (R-2025-015) passed 5-0.
The board then approved the amended 2025 meeting calendar, which includes the July 7 meeting and omits the second July meeting; that resolution (R-2025-016) passed 5-0. Finally, the board set a public hearing for Monday, June 30, at 6:00 p.m.; a commissioner amended the motion to include the 6:00 p.m. time, and the motion carried unanimously.
These actions were described by staff as procedural steps to ensure compliance with statutory timelines and provide appropriate public notice; no substantive policy changes other than scheduling were adopted during these votes.
The special meeting adjourned and the board reconvened at 7:00 p.m. for its regular meeting.
