Board approves personnel moves, resignations and school staffing; Rye Cove FCCLA trip approved

On March 3 the Scott County School Board approved a series of personnel actions and extracurricular travel requests.
The board accepted the resignation of Kristen Gillenwater. It also approved multiple employment actions: Maria Martinez (early Head Start teacher, effective March 1, 2026) and a list of paid and non-stipend coaches across Gate City, Twin Springs and Rye Cove high schools and associated middle schools. The motion to approve employment actions was moved by Vice Chair Steve Sallee and seconded by Daniel Meade; the minutes record that "all members voting aye." The substitute list for the district was likewise approved.
The board also approved an overnight field trip for Rye Cove High School FCCLA to attend the State Leadership and Recognition Conference in Virginia Beach. Board members thanked staff and community volunteers during member comments and welcomed Bill Houseright back to the dais. The meeting adjourned at 8:57 p.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for April 7, 2026.
