Scott County School Board approves personnel moves, claims and overnight band trip

The Scott County School Board on Feb. 3 approved a set of routine personnel actions, claims and an overnight field trip during its regular meeting at the Scott County Career & Technical Center.

Assistant Superintendent Jason Smith presented personnel items in open session after the board returned from a closed meeting. On a motion by Vice Chair Steve Sallee, seconded by Mrs. Patricia Edwards, the board approved several resignations including Kayla Roundy (teacher, effective Jan. 13, 2026), Kellie Russell (Early Head Start teacher, effective Jan. 23, 2026) and others listed in the personnel packet. The board then approved a slate of new hires on a motion by Mrs. Patricia Edwards, seconded by Mr. Daniel Meade; new hires include Misty Sexton (cook), Kaitlyn Stapleton (nurse), Alisha Calton (bus driver) and multiple coaches at Rye Cove High School (listed in the packet) effective in January and February 2026.

The board also approved the substitute list and authorized an overnight field trip request for Rye Cove High School band to Chattanooga, Tenn., for March 27—28, 2026. All motions noted in the minutes passed with "all members voting aye" among those present.

The meeting packet recorded the board's approval of claims and payroll earlier in the session: school operating fund invoices and payroll totaling $1,349,422.85 were approved along with electronic payroll direct deposits and retirement deposits of $2,707,030.88 and listed tax deposits. The board adjourned at 7:50 p.m. and scheduled the next meeting for March 3, 2026, with a budget hearing at 6:15 p.m.

The board recorded no public comments at the meeting and no controversy or dissent was recorded in the minutes for the personnel or travel approvals.
