Scott County School Board adopts 2026-27 calendar; fringe recommendations to be revisited

The Scott County School Board unanimously approved the 2026-2027 school calendar during its March 3 regular meeting at the Scott County Career & Technical Center.
Chair David Templeton opened the meeting and, after committee presentation, the board voted to adopt the calendar as presented. "On a motion made by Vice Chair Steve Sallee, seconded by Mrs. Patricia Edwards, all members voting aye, the Board approved the 2026-2027 School Calendar as presented," the minutes state.
Ashley Culbertson, representing the district Salary and Fringe Benefits Committee, presented a set of proposals for the coming school year. The committee recommended funding a step increase for eligible employees, a 3% salary increase for all employees, exploring a longevity incentive for staff with 30+ years, maintaining health insurance premiums without benefit reductions, and other items including expanding bereavement leave and exploring retiree and bus driver insurance options. The board did not act on the fringe recommendations at the meeting and will revisit them in future deliberations.
During the same meeting the board also amended the current 2025-26 calendar. Assistant Superintendent Jason Smith moved the amendment, which passed unanimously. The changes make May 26'29, 2026 the district's designated make-up days (with May 29 a 1 p.m. dismissal), remove March 30 as a make-up day so spring break remains intact, and confirm that May 25 will be closed for Memorial Day. Scott County said it had been granted seven additional Inclement Weather Planning (IWP) days for the year and had used one; any missed days beyond the IWP allotment would be made up starting June 1.
The calendar vote and subsequent amendment were procedural votes and carried unanimously; all board members on the dais'David Templeton, Vice Chair Steve Sallee, Patricia Edwards, Robin "Rob" Hood, Daniel Meade and Bill Houseright'voted in favor.
Board members said they appreciated community engagement on scheduling and noted further benefit discussions will continue before any personnel- or salary-related changes are finalized.
