Consultants ask Lake County to allow department interviews for comprehensive strategic plan

Representatives from Community Solutions Innovators (CSI) asked the Lake County Board of Commissioners on March 18 to encourage department heads to meet with CSI staff as the firm assembles a Lake County Comprehensive Strategic Plan. Mark Smith and Chantal Dugied said CSI had applied for grant funding, including a $35,000 award to hire an economist, and emphasized they were not requesting county funds for the effort.
"We are not asking for funds from Lake County," Chantal Dugied said, and asked commissioners to let department leaders make time for interviews because those leaders hold institutional knowledge the project needs. Commissioner James Williams said he appreciated the work CSI was doing and believed the plan would be helpful; Vice‑Chair Barry Shullanberger clarified that commissioners could encourage department participation but could not compel it.
CSI representatives said their framework includes a component to address Lake County’s electricity access issues and to identify potential funding paths for departmental priorities. Commissioners agreed they would encourage department heads to meet with CSI staff as the consultants seek stakeholder input.
Next steps: CSI will proceed with grant‑funded tasks and request interviews with department staff; commissioners asked staff to consider facilitating introductions and to evaluate department availability.
