Summary
Board members heard updates on pole removals, recent downtown business openings, event reminders for late April and a financial report showing a March 2026 ending fund balance of $3,435,451 and an unencumbered balance discussed in the packet.
At its April meeting the Friendswood Downtown Economic Development Corporation received updates on downtown pole and light removals, new business openings and its March 2026 financial report.
Staff reported Texas New Mexico Power has removed three fixtures after work orders were entered and that staff located an additional light on French church drive to add to the removal list. Staff said there are six active removal requests for the downtown area and that some older decorative poles at 209 South Friendswood were removed in the past month. Managers discussed the need to confirm coordinates with utilities so the utility systems register the assets and the city can receive credit when poles are removed.
Staff also noted downtown business activity in the past month, citing Friendswood Grocery’s move next to Sherwin Williams and other openings and certificate-of-occupancy updates. The board was reminded of an HDAC Small Business Week event on April 27 at Hope Village and a Bringing Back Main Street event in council chambers on April 29.
On finance, staff presented March 2026 figures: a beginning fund balance of $3,330,000, revenue of $97,859, and an ending fund balance reported as $3,435,451, with roughly $18,000 still listed for contingencies in the materials. Staff summarized the unencumbered fund balance in the report materials and said staff services to the city accounted for $1,334 in March.
