Summary
The Friendswood Downtown Economic Development Corporation approved a $625,483.26 turnkey invoice from Comcast to remove and bury Comcast’s downtown communication lines; staff said the work will likely take 30–90 days depending on mobilization and will go to the May 5 City Council for final approval.
The Friendswood Downtown Economic Development Corporation voted to approve a Comcast invoice of $625,483.26 to remove and bury the company’s downtown communication lines.
Staff told the board the Comcast figure — described as a turnkey package prepared by a third‑party vendor — is an invoice for “lock stock and barrel to remove and bury everything that they have out there.” Steven said Comcast provided a line-item package in the packet and the City would bring the item to City Council on May 5 for final action.
A board member asked when the work would begin; Steven said he had requested a start date and expected the Comcast mobilization to be relatively fast once scheduled. He estimated that once field crews begin, components could take 30–45 days, and that the full effort for all carriers might be in the 60–90 day range. The board made and seconded a motion to approve the Comcast removal/installation item and voted unanimously to forward it to the May 5 council meeting.
Steven cautioned that, as with similar projects, change orders remain possible and staff cannot guarantee no future adjustments to the invoice. He said staff will pass any schedule information to the council packet when available.
