Baker said the program repaid $99,119.24 to close 2024 and that a 2025 cut left the office operating at near‑minimum staffing levels.
"We actually set for about probably 2 hours today looking at it ... We had to pay back $99,119.24 that year," Baker said, describing prior closeout costs and the effect on current draws. She warned that without the appropriation the program risked losing grant funding and said she is pursuing cost‑savings such as new ankle‑monitor agreements that could save about $2,000 per month.
Council members discussed options, including transferring from vacant positions and location budget lines rather than using general funds. After deliberation the council voted to approve a $29,000 appropriation from the general fund to Community Corrections to cover the shortfall; the vote was recorded in favor by the council.
Council members asked Baker to provide more detailed ledger reports and encouraged program staff to pursue the cost‑saving measures they described so the agency does not return to the council with similar requests in future months.
