Summary
Housing Services reported the Homeowner Assistance Fund will end in September; the office received 3,522 applications and approved 2,327 awards totaling about $18,300,000 for delinquent and future mortgages, property taxes, insurance and probate assistance, and outlined ongoing construction projects and unit completions.
Jerry Killer of Housing Services updated the Community Services Committee on housing programs and construction activity.
"That program does end in September," Killer said of the Homeowner Assistance Fund and provided usage figures: "we've received 3,522 applications and we have approved 2,327 to a tune of $18,300,000." He said approved funds addressed delinquent mortgages, future mortgages, property taxes, insurance and probate assistance to help keep people in their homes.
Killer also reported progress on construction projects, saying Autumn Woods (in northern Cherokee County) should complete construction this month with a small amount of site work remaining. He said the first six new-construction units for the next round are out for bid and several additional projects for community room upgrades are under bid.
On rental and workforce housing, Killer reported five Section 185 skilled-worker units are in progress, with two units in Tahlequah and staggered near-term completion dates (one unit about 45 days out and others roughly 30–35 days behind). He noted setbacks from theft at some units in Muskogee and at locations described as "J," but did not provide additional details.
The report included operational praise for mortgage-assistance staff and did not propose new policy changes; committee members did not ask substantive follow-up questions during the presentation.
