Somerville environmental commission hands stormwater recommendations to planning board; discussion deferred

The Somerville Environmental Commission delivered stormwater-control recommendations to the Planning Board on Sept. 24 but the board declined to take up substantive discussion at that meeting and asked that the documents be circulated to board members and made available for public review ahead of a future hearing.
Jeffrey Kaiser, vice president of the Somerville Environmental Commission, told the board the commission had studied stormwater issues and prepared recommendations and supporting documents that he wished to hand to the planning-board secretary. "I came here to provide the environmental commission’s recommendations that we've developed for the stormwater control ordinance," Kaiser said, and handed a copy to the board secretary.
Board members said they had just received the materials that evening and that it would be unfair to debate or act on them without time to review. The chair asked that the Environmental Commission send digital copies to the planning-board secretary (Ryan) so the documents can be distributed to members and posted for public review before a future meeting.
The item remains on the board’s agenda for a future meeting, at which the board said it expects to receive a formal presentation and to discuss the stormwater ordinance in light of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s updated requirements.
