Denise Houser, a resident at 1331 South 10th Street, told the Allentown City Public Safety Committee that speeding and illegal dirt‑bike riding on her block have grown worse over the years and that the behavior endangers children.
"They're doing 50, 60 miles an hour," Houser said, and described riders who put children on the front of dirt bikes she said are "illegal in this city." She asked the committee how to pursue removable speed bumps and said she had previously contacted the parking authority, the streets department and engineering without resolution.
The chair asked for details about the location (South 10th and Tioga) and said he would call the chief of police to follow up with Houser and see what can be done. Houser also said faded corner markings and cars parking right up to intersections reduce sightlines at stop signs; a committee member suggested repainting yellow or white no‑parking lines, which Houser said may have faded.
The committee did not take a formal vote on traffic‑calming measures during the meeting; the chair offered to initiate a follow‑up with police and relevant city departments.
