The board also honored an individual athletics achievement: a pole-vault state champion from Allegheny High School received a plaque and public congratulations from board members and guests. Athletic presenters described the athlete's progression from early participation to state and national competitions.

Davis, who has taught for eight years in the district and holds master's-level degrees including a master's in science and sustainability development and conservation biology, spoke about curiosity and the role of science in instruction.
