Adair County Fiscal Court discussed March 24 the county’s degraded mapping system and an imminent migration to NextGen 9-1-1. Staff said the existing Esri contract (cited as signed in 2012) expired in 2023 and mapping functionality, including address assignment and pin-drop precision, has suffered as a result. The county’s 9-1-1 coordinator said migration to NextGen 9-1-1 is scheduled within days and described improved location precision from network providers.
Officials reported that some address and mapping tasks cannot be completed because of software limitations, delaying utilities and permitting in some cases. Staff presented a vendor quote of about $21,000 for replacement software and training; members discussed whether the road department could share costs given mapping’s cross-departmental uses. The court agreed the need was pressing for public-safety reasons but tabled immediate purchase approval and asked staff to bring the item to the next budget committee meeting with detailed options and funding sources.
Members also noted receipt of a $10,000 check tied to mapping activity and suggested the check and other targeted funds be considered as part of the budget committee’s review before any purchase is finalized. The court directed staff to organize budget review and return with cost comparisons and implementation timelines.
