Adair County board approves street-paving and other routine contracts; recognizes Windstream change

The Adair County governing body voted to accept a bid for paving multiple city streets and approved several routine contract actions and donations during its meeting.
The board reviewed a paving bid that covered work on Garrett, Sunny Hill Drive, Pittman Street, Travis Street, Hughes Street, and two sections of Crawfish Drive, with a separate bid for a park parking area. A motion to proceed with the paving package was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote. The staff member presenting the bids said the street-paving amount shown in the packet was $73,100 and the separate park-lot bid was $17,500. The board discussed the two separate projects and approved moving forward.
The board also considered bids related to the Columbia Police Department range. One vendor’s submission included rock work quoted at $2,000; the board voted to accept the recommended bid and carry forward contracting steps.
A driveway and culvert bid from Bridal Excavation that listed 500 tons of gravel drew discussion. Staff clarified the board would remove the gravel item from the award and have the contractor submit an adjusted price reflecting that change; the transcript shows an estimated gravel cost of roughly $9,125 and an interim contractor figure of $12,500 for excavation work without gravel.
Separately, the board authorized declaring an older street-department generator as surplus and approved donating it to a local Class D facility, following a motion and voice vote.
The board approved a resolution acknowledging Windstream’s corporate change; the resolution passed by voice vote. The county also heard a vendor update that its current gas price will fall from 4.1437 to 3.6388 (with discount) until a new contract is completed; the vendor contact, John Shearer of Constellation Gas, is scheduled to attend a future meeting to discuss contracting details.
What’s next: staff was directed to return next month with adjusted contractor pricing for the driveway/gravels scope, contract papers for accepted bids, and additional budget recommendations where needed.
