The Minooka Community High School District #111 Board of Education on July 16 approved several budget and operational measures, including a $15 million transfer from the district’s Working Cash Fund to the Capital Fund and the purchase of four replacement vans.
The board adopted the Resolution abating the Working Cash Fund to the Capital Fund in a motion by Mike Hoyt, seconded by Bert Kooi; the motion carried with recorded ayes from Mike Brozovich, Jim Grzetich, Bert Kooi, Tim Juskiewicz, Mike Hoyt and President Laura Hrechko. The resolution moves $15,000,000 into the Capital Fund to pay for district projects, according to board materials presented during the meeting.
Earlier in the action portion the board approved purchase of four Chrysler Pacifica vans, following a motion by Jim Grzetich and a second by Tim Juskiewicz. Assistant Director of Transportation Sloane Dempsey had presented Greenway Motors quotes of $36,540.70, $36,540.70, $35,540.70 and $35,040.70 for the four vehicles; the purchase motion carried with ayes from Bert Kooi, Tim Juskiewicz, Mike Hoyt, Mike Brozovich, Jim Grzetich and Laura Hrechko.
The board also approved the Fellowship of Christian Athletes as a student club after Dr. Rob Schiffbauer reported that 79 students petitioned to form FCA and that Brad Kunz agreed to serve as sponsor. The FCA approval passed on a motion by Tim Juskiewicz, seconded by Mike Hoyt, with unanimous recorded ayes among voting members present.
A proposal to enter a contract with Blu Petroleum for transportation fuel and lubricants was discussed but tabled for further cost comparisons; board members requested additional analysis and expected the item to return at the August meeting.
In its personnel actions the board accepted multiple resignations, approved leaves of absence and authorized new hires for the 2025–26 school year. Accepted resignations included Michael Soverino (Bus Mechanic Lead) and several teachers and support staff; the board also approved certified hires including Christina Murry, Ashley Tutt and Jessica Carlson (pending paperwork and background checks) and multiple bus drivers and aides. The board confirmed extracurricular sponsor and coach appointments for the coming year and approved a contract with the Minooka Transportation Association.
The board held an executive session to discuss confidential personnel and student-discipline matters and returned to open session to approve closed-session minutes and records actions, including a motion to destroy audio recordings from July–December 2023 that the board found were no longer required by law.
The meeting adjourned at 7:12 p.m.
