Supervisors hear about Google watershed funding opportunity and regional transportation projects

Summary
County officials summarized a Google watershed grant webinar (projects typically $350,000–$6,000,000; Google contribution often 30–70%), asked partners to submit potential projects to Cynthia Farmer by April 17, and reviewed approved regional projects including DOT and bridge funding.
Supervisors heard a report on a Google watershed investment webinar and a regional planning update with several approved transportation projects.
A supervisor summarized the webinar, saying Google is investing in projects that improve water efficiency, quality and watershed health and typically funds projects in the $350,000 to $6,000,000 range, contributing roughly 30% to 70% of project costs. The supervisor said the Rock Creek/Upper Cedar watershed is a high priority in the region and noted a volunteer has offered to write a grant; partners and potential projects were asked to submit ideas to Cynthia Farmer by April 17. The supervisor emphasized that Google typically wants shovel-ready projects with construction beginning within about a year and a completion/operation target near 2030.
Separately, a regional planning update listed four approved projects in the area, including $1,000,000 to the DOT, $1,460,000 for a Clear Lake project, about $1.7 million for a bridge project (possibly Charles City), and $1,600,000 for another local project. A long-range transportation plan update and DOT construction work in Mason City were also discussed.
The items were presented for information; supervisors were asked to follow up with watershed partners and local agencies about potential project submissions and public engagement.
