Henderson County Commissioners Court on Tuesday approved using up to $5,000 from the Healthy County fund to purchase incentive items for participants in the county's employee wellness program.
The county's Healthy County coordinator told the court the money "can only be used on the Healthy County incentive program" and asked for authorization to buy items that will be distributed to participants. The coordinator said courthouse walks and other activities have increased participation and that incentive items could last longer than a single year depending on distribution frequency.
Commissioners asked whether the $5,000 would be an annual authorization and where the funding originates. Staff said the proceeds are provided through the county's insurance provider and are intended to be returned to program participants. Commissioner Brickson moved to approve the request; the motion was seconded and approved unanimously.
The approval authorizes up to $5,000 for incentive purchases but does not appropriate additional county general funds. Staff agreed to confirm distribution timing and report back if the court wanted an annual allocation during budget discussions.
