At the start of the April 13 session, Colleen Charles took the oath of office and formally opened the meeting, stating the time and date before calling the meeting to order. Charles thanked voters, town employees, residents and local businesses and recognized former Mayor John Holbrook for 28 years of service, including 18 years as mayor. She also thanked Councilmember Deborah Worley for serving the remaining two years of a council term.
Charles outlined priorities for her term, saying she plans to "listen, support our staff, to strengthen communication, and to help ensure our processes are clear, consistent, and fully aligned with the town charter and our muni code," and that she will maintain regular office hours so citizens and businesses have direct access to the mayor. Pastor Norris of Trinity Lutheran Church gave the invocation; the council completed roll call and proceeded with the evening’s agenda.
The council scheduled standard administrative items for future meetings, including solicitation of letters of interest to fill an open council seat and the May meeting to select a vice mayor per charter requirements.
