The mayor and council of the Town of Berlin voted Monday to enter a closed session to consult legal counsel and discuss department-level appointments, the presiding official announced at a meeting that opened at 5:00 p.m.
The Chair cited statutory authority for the executive session, saying it was held “to consult legal counsel” and referenced the general provisions governing closed meetings, noting Article 3-305(b). The Chair also said the second agenda item covered personnel matters including appointments and performance evaluations of specific individuals.
Before moving into closed session, the Chair asked whether any member of the public objected; seeing none, the Chair called for a motion. “I will motion that to Council member Morris, a second by Council member Merritt,” the Chair said. After calling for the vote and hearing “Aye,” the Chair said the record reflected a unanimous vote to go into closed session.
The Chair said the executive session would be held in the library and that the public meeting would reopen at 6:00 p.m. No further details about the legal matter or personnel actions were disclosed in the public record before the council recessed to closed session.
