Summary
Mayor Leonard Norton urged spring cleanup, warned against improper dumping at the city dumpster, announced job postings, and reported water-line work and a tentative April 15 start for secondary water service; the council also reviewed zoning clearances and scheduled community events including an Easter egg hunt on March 28.
Huntington — Mayor Leonard Norton used the March 18 council meeting to urge residents to clean up yards for spring and to remind them that the city dumpster is for Huntington residents only; he said improper dumping of concrete or dirt could lead to cleanup-cost assessments.
Norton also thanked city office and maintenance staff for their work on the Title 9 ordinance and for general upkeep, and noted that the Castle Valley Special Service District completed isolation-valve work. He reported a secondary water line has been installed on 350 East with final completion expected in July and secondary water service tentatively scheduled to begin on April 15.
The mayor said advertisements have been placed for two seasonal positions — a flower-watering position and a custodial worker — and asked residents to remove trash cans from the street in a timely manner.
Zoning Administrator Jessica Lee reported she had completed eight zoning clearances since the last meeting, including two new home builds, two accessory structures and approval for placement of four trailers at Kim’s Trailer Haven. She also said three vehicles were tagged for compliance, with two issues resolved, and that she issued a notice to vacate to an individual staying at the rodeo grounds; that person complied within the timeframe given.
Council members provided routine reports: Gloria Wilson said the cemetery sign was removed for powder coating and discussed proposed improvements with the mayor; Judd Beagley announced City Clean-Up will run from March 31 through May 12 and reminded residents the program is for branches only; Lesa Miller reported repair work at the rodeo grounds and said this year’s rodeo will start at 7:30 p.m. and will not include grand marshals to allow an earlier start; Tom Kay summarized attendance at a SERDA land-management meeting and Planning & Zoning’s review of a subdivision application.
Youth City Council volunteers helped prepare Easter eggs for a city egg hunt scheduled for Saturday, March 28 at 10:00 a.m. at Lions Park. Resident Mike Greenan thanked staff for assistance provided to his mother and raised a concern about the intersection near Canyonview Middle School.
What happens next: staff will proceed with contract execution for the furnace bid and will handle implementation and reporting; Planning & Zoning will continue work on subdivision matters and zoning clearances; City Clean-Up begins March 31.
