Calcasieu Parish Police Jury adopted a proclamation recognizing National Telecommunicator Week. Liaison Miss Eason reported the 911 center handled 113,763 calls last year, averaging 338 per day with an average answer time of eight seconds.
The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury unanimously adopted a proclamation declaring April 12–18, 2026, National Telecommunicator Week and publicly thanked the parish’s telecommunicators during its April 9 meeting.
Miss Eason, identified in the meeting as a liaison for the emergency 911 group, briefed the jury on the center’s workload and performance. "Their total 9‑1‑1 calls last year were 113,763 phone calls," Eason said, adding the center answers an average of 338 calls per day and that most calls come between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. She said the center’s average answer time is eight seconds, beating the industry standard of 10 seconds. Eason provided a breakdown of call types, saying about 66% were for law enforcement, 11% for fire, and 3.2% for emergency medical incidents; she also noted the center fields hang‑up calls (about 13%).
The jury adopted the proclamation on a motion by Markantel with a second by Quinn and offered formal appreciation for telecommunicators’ work.
The proclamation does not change operational policy or funding; Eason’s remarks were provided to inform the jury and public of the 911 center’s workload and performance metrics.
