Summary
The Altoona City Council on Aug. 19 approved amendments to its traffic code to add All‑Way stops at identified intersections and established no‑parking zones near Sam Wise Park and 9th St. NE after a city engineering study; both ordinance actions passed on unanimous roll calls.
The Altoona City Council voted Aug. 19 to amend city ordinances to add All‑Way stop signage at specified residential collector intersections and to establish no‑parking zones near Sam Wise Park and along 9th Street NE.
City Engineer John Dostart told the council an engineering study showed the combination of intersecting residential collector streets and the recent removal of a traffic circle warrants converting the intersection to an All‑Way stop. The public hearing on the proposed four‑way stop drew no speakers.
Council also considered two no‑parking locations: both sides of Falcon Drive at its intersection with 8th Street SE (between Sam Wise Park and the middle school) and both sides of 9th Street NE from 1st Avenue N to 14th Avenue NE. Dostart described the locations under consideration; the hearing on the no‑parking proposals drew no public comment.
The council recorded roll call votes advancing the amendments to chapter 65, section 04 (four‑way stops) and chapter 69, section 08 (no‑parking zones) through the required readings and to publish. The recorded votes for the readings and publication were unanimous in the minutes (5‑0).
Mayor Dean O'Connor presided over the meeting at Altoona City Hall. The ordinance amendments take effect following publication as required by city code.
The council took no further action on parking enforcement details at the meeting; staff will implement signing changes and notify affected residents as appropriate.
