Board hears WASDA priorities update; director urges review of generative-AI policy for K–12

Director Kramer raised a substantive concern about the suggestion in WASDA’s materials regarding generative AI in K–12 settings. He said he does not think it is appropriate for children to be using generative AI and referenced statements attributed in the transcript to the CEO of Anthropic to support caution. Kramer asked that the board consider adding the topic to a future agenda for discussion and potential action.
Board members agreed to review the materials and to let Director Gerard know by the stated deadline if they wish to propose changes; the board did not take formal legislative positions at the meeting.
