Students unveil mental-health PSA; student reps report academic and athletics updates

Marylouz Ramos Hernandez and Aaron, seniors involved in the superintendent's council, said the council prioritized mental-health awareness and worked with staff and a teacher, Justin Amenta, to produce a short PSA. Marylouz described distribution plans including social media, ParentSquare and school announcements; commissioners praised the students and suggested wider publicity including local TV.
Student representatives Anna Lee Abaez (Waterview Career Academy) and Jaden Levasseur (Waterbury Career Academy) provided updates on career-program competitions, certifications, spring sports, trips and upcoming test dates. Levasseur said many seniors were frustrated that the graduation date had not been fixed; Superintendent Dr. Swartz explained that the state requires 180 school days and that a final date likely will be set in early May because the district must account for makeup days.
