Summary
The Burleson ISD board recognized multiple student achievements April 13: BHS cheer won the state championship, debate and Model UN competitors reached new milestones, and Lainie Holt earned several livestock-show distinctions while maintaining high academic standing.
The Burleson Independent School District used its April 13 meeting to recognize a string of student accomplishments across athletics, academics and agricultural programs.
Victoria Butler, head cheer coach at Burleson High School, told the board that the BHS squad won every state competition it entered this season and took first place at the state meet; the team then placed third at nationals — the best national finish in the district’s history. "They won every single competition they went to in the state of Texas," Butler said, calling the result a career highlight for the seniors.
The board also recognized Preston Hamilton, a junior who won his regional debate category and advanced to state finals — a first for the school in that classification — and Hudson Bracken and other members of the Model UN team for awards earned at a large University of Houston tournament.
An agriculture teacher read a prepared statement honoring Lainie (Laney) Holt for a season that included a reserve champion Hereford steer at San Antonio, strong showings in multiple national and regional events, and more than $2,000 in scholarship winnings. The presenter praised Holt’s balance of competition and academics, noting a 3.5-plus GPA and leadership roles in FFA.
Board members applauded the students and coaches and arranged photos to mark the recognitions.
