The Otoe County Board of Commissioners approved two KENO fund awards at its April 7, 2026 meeting. Keep Nebraska City Beautiful received $6,710.26 to cover educational materials, fees for an electronics recycling event and an annual glass recycling fee after the group’s regular grant funding was lost due to a clerical error. Sally DuBois, the organization’s executive director, presented the request and said the items are needed to continue public recycling programs.
The Mayhew Cabin Foundation was awarded $1,524.00 to replace informational banners and panels that deteriorated after the site closed in 2019 because of flooding. Doug Kreifels and Bob Nelson represented the foundation and said the materials will be used offsite until the site can be returned to public access. The foundation plans to work with Adkins Signs in Nebraska City for printing.
Both awards were moved and seconded by commissioners and passed unanimously by a 5-0 vote. Approval votes were recorded as aye votes from Commissioners Jerad Sornson, Freshman, Parsons, Crownover and Cole. The board recorded no nays.
The KENO funds will be disbursed as requested; no conditions or follow-up reporting requirements beyond normal county procedures were specified during the meeting. The board will next meet April 21, 2026.
